“Culture is rooted in language, therefore if we are to preserve our culture we need to preserve our language”, said the director, Information and Public Relations, Nagaland, Limawati Longchar who was the special guest on the second day of the 41st triennial conference of Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang (Asetkong Range Students’ Conference) at Sungratsu village on January 11.
According to DIPR report, he said preserving one’s culture does not solely mean preserving of folklore and folk songs but it encompassed the daily activities such as the way one spoke and acted, respect to elders and having originality in whatever one does etc.
Limawati Longchar also maintained that while preserving our rich culture we needed to respect and avoid infringing other areas. He said we cannot preserve what was contradictory to religion.
Other highlight of the programme included presentation of culture items representing student’s union from different village and town units and cultural quiz competition.
