Disaster management mock exercise held at Chümoukedima

Dimapur:

A district-level disaster management mock exercise was conducted at Chümoukedima Village Ground on February 24 as part of the 2025–26 programme.
According to DIPR report, the exercise was organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chümoukedima, in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (12th Battalion).
The mock drill was based on a simulated earthquake scenario, where a collapsed building situation was created to demonstrate realistic rescue and response operations. The NDRF team replicated debris, trapped victims and restricted access conditions to enable responders to practice real-time rescue operations under challenging circumstances.
Rescue teams demonstrated search and rescue techniques, victim extraction, evacuation procedures and emergency medical response in coordination with other departments. SDO (Civil) Chümoukedima, Shreyansee Jain, was present during the exercise. Officials from Fire and Emergency Services, Transport, Health Department, Chümoukedima Village Council, civil society organisations, volunteers and local stakeholders also participated.
Following the mock drill, the NDRF team held an interactive session with students and civilians, demonstrating Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques and stressing the importance of immediate first response during emergencies. The session aimed to sensitise and equip youth with basic life-saving skills.
The exercise was conducted to enhance disaster preparedness, improve coordination among agencies and create public awareness on appropriate response measures during emergencies.
