The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has asked the commissioner & secretary of department of Food and Civil Supplies (F&CS) to publicise the list of beneficiaries under the Tide-Over category within 10 days.
In a press release, the RPP said as per RTI documents, the department claimed not to have the names of beneficiaries under the Tide-Over category, which the party described as surprising since the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, in a letter dated December 7, 2015 had directed the states to “digitise beneficiary database and upload in the state portal before the implementation of the NFSA, 2013”.
Again, citing the ministry’s letter dated January 1, 2023 RPP said: “The state government shall place the list of the identified eligible households in the public domain and display it prominently.”
Further, terming the department’s another claim that the distribution of rice was done by the stockiest themselves as strange, the party said the stockiest/handling agents/ carriage contractors should be having the names of the beneficiaries. Hence, it requested the department to upload these names in public domain, such as department website, state portal, etc.
According to the RPP, the matter was serious because the issue pertained to the distribution of 3,17,563.04 MT of Tide-Over rice issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, to the state between 2018 and October 2024.
