Dist administration, Police crack down on unauthorized check gates in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, FEB 26 (NPN):

Two days after the state government directed all municipal/town councils to immediately cease collection of certain taxes and fees, Dimapur district administration Thursday carried out a major inspection of check gates across the district and ordered the closure of all unauthorized ones.
According to DIPR, the inspection team was led by SDO (C) Dimapur, Wiridin, accompanied by ADCP Kelem Toshi Jamir, police personnel, and dobashis.
The team visited several locations, including Dillai Gate, Duncan Check Gate, Thahekhu Gate, FCI Godown at Kevijau Colony, New Field Check Gate and Old Khatkati Road Check Gate at Burma Camp. All these check gates were found to have been closed down during the inspection.
However, two gates remained operational– Benjak Phom Colony (Walford Check Gate) and East Dimapur Town Council check gate near Zion Hospital Junction.
Authorities stated that specific instructions would be issued for the dismantling and complete removal of these structures.
All check gates set up by government departments, municipal bodies, and town councils were directed to strictly comply with the government order.
The district administration affirmed that it would ensure no unauthorized check gate remained functional in violation of the directive.
Regular surprise inspections would be conducted with the support of the respective SP/DCP to enforce compliance.
The administration strongly warned that any unauthorized check gate—whether operated by private groups, individuals, or others—found functioning would lead to prosecution of those responsible under Sections 188 and 384 of the IPC. Disciplinary proceedings would also be initiated against any concerned government officials found involved or negligent, the administration warned.
