Five-day, district handloom expo “Tana Bana” commenced at public ground, Kushiabill, Dimapur on Tuesday. The expo was inaugurated by joint director, department of Industries and commerce (DIC), N Vikheho Aye.
After inaugurating the expo, Aye visited all the exhibition stalls, showing keen interest in the exhibits crafted by local weavers. Lucy Ngouri, emphasized that the primary goal of the expo was to provide weavers with a broader platform to exhibit and directly sell their genuine products to potential buyers. She appealed to the public to visit the expo and extend their support to local weavers by purchasing their handmade products.
The expo was organized by department of industries and commerce and has been funded by development commissioner handlooms ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi. Officials of DIC informed Nagaland Post, that 25 stalls have set up including 20 handlooms stalls and five handicrafts stalls.
The stalls have been provided to artisans from the district itself displaying varieties of craftsmanship such as traditional accessories, shawls, bags etc. It may be mentioned that the main objective of the expo was to provide platform and exposure to the artisans and encouraged them. The expo will culminate on September 30, 2023.
