District Hospital Dimapur health camp

District Hospital Dimapur (DHD), in collaboration with Naga Chetana Project co-sponsored by Indian Medical Association and Chetana Trust of Mangaluru, Karnataka, organized a health camp at DHD, Dimapur on January 21.

A press release from DHD Dimapur stated that Dr U.V Shenoy, professor Emeritus Paediatrics, KMC Mangalore, consultant paediatrician, district early intervention officer (DK) and president advisory committee Seva Bharthi (R) Mangalore in a brief introductory program said that the three-day camp would focus more on screening of children from 0 to 18 years. The screening will aim at early detection and management of People with Disabilities (PwDs), defects at birth diseases, deficiencies and development defects including disabilities prevalent in children, diagnosed with illnesses. They will be provided free follow-ups, to include surgeries, at the tertiary level as per RSBK model costing under NHM.

Regretting that due to non-availability of facilities for operating cardiac and neurological problems, he said that the team will be conducting necessary medical procedures in Imphal. Dr. Shenoy also mentioned that state government should provide high end facilities for cardiology and neurology, at least in districts like Dimapur and Kohima. He also pointed out the need for more schools for disabled children.

Dr. Shenoy said that the main focus would be the “Thalassemia” disease, an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of haemoglobin.

A special team of specialist doctors, NGOs and educationists will be conducting free consultations and screening by child developmental interventionist, psychiatrists, orthopaediatricians, gynaecologists, paediatricians, physiotherapists, child educationists and ophthalmics.

Earlier, the program started with a welcome note by medical superintendent DHD, Dr. Z. Kheshito Zhimo.

The camp had 544 total registrations out of which 60 patients were below 18 years. The health camp will end on January 23.
