District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), organises awareness programme on mental health

District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Kohima organised an awareness programme on mental health and mental illness at Japfu Christian College (JCC) Kohima on Friday, with an objective to reduce the stigma attached with mental illnesses through change of attitude and public education.
In a press release, DMHP Kohima informed that during the programme, psychiatric social worker, Veronica Nriame spoke on the importance of life skills education and mental health which she said was a tool of intervention in enhancing skills and capabilities to cope with daily demands of life.
She also spoke on the importance of coping with stress in a positive way and how to boost one’s mental health as a student.
Meanwhile, clinical psychologist, Ketousenuo Phewhuo talked on how to identify symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders.
She highlighted that cases of depression and anxiety disorders were unfortunately increasing in the community especially among the school and college goers.
Further, Ketousenuo spoke on the causes of such disorders and its intervention and stressed on the importance of supporting and guiding one another to seek professional help at the earliest.
