
District museum, first of its kind in the district constructed by the Ayolta Human Resource Society (AHRS) Orangkong village under Longleng district was inaugurated today by M. Shayung Phom, deputy commissioner Longleng as a special guest in presence of public, church and students leaders of the district.
While lauding the Ayolta Human Resource Society Orangkong village for coming up with the initiative, the special guest said, the museum constructed at a stipulated time will attract not only the people of the district but bring more tourists from far and near. He said that this will give visitors an insight into “our” culture, tradition and artifacts that has been passed on from forefathers.
He also said that with the collection of different artifacts of the past, it will not only showcase rich tradition but will benefit the youngsters about cultural practices, folklores, dances etc.
DC was hopeful that this year will be an auspicious year where more projects would be created for the benefit of the people.
While highlighting on the importance of art & culture, artifacts and preservation of one’s roots through primary evidences, the special guest encouraged every individual, villages of Phom community to come forward and contribute different artifacts as it can boost and bring development in Longleng district in particular and Nagaland state in general.
He also asked any society of the district to come forward for which he wass always ready to extend his valuable advices and help for the betterment and development of the district.
While giving brief reports on the construction of the museum, Himja Leinak secretary Ayolta Human Resource Society (AHRS) Orangkong village said, the Ayolta Human Resource Society is a registered society since 2003 under Home department, Nagaland.
He said the society has been conducting cultural programmes and seminars for minority women, awareness for consumer rights and rehabilitation centre has been established in Longleng funded by the ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, India.
He also said that the motive behind having a museum in Longleng district is to preserve the rich old cultural & traditional artifacts of the Nagas, particularly of Phom tribe.
He said the construction work started in the month of May 2017 and completed in June 2019. He said the society is fortunate to receive the sanction amount and with the contribution of the NGO, the construction was completed on time.
Himja Leinak also announced that official website of the society has been already created and asked the people to access through google.
Others who spoke on the occasion included, H. Leisha Phom advisor AHRS, S. Namnyei Phom Council chairman Orangkong village, H. Tenchem Phom vice president Phom People’s Council, and Y. B. Angam Phom, president APGO.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by K. Limei Phom, invocation prayer by pastor Orangkong Baptist Church Pangpent Phom and folk song presented by youth of Orangkong village.
