The deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima, Shanavas C said one of the responsibilities of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was to efficiently discharge government activities across the district.
According to a DIPR report, the newly appointed DC and vice chairman Kohima DPDB was addressing the monthly DPDB meeting on Wednesday, in the conference hall of the DPDB Kohima. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of chairman DPDB Kohima, Keneizakho Nakhro, MLA.
Shanavas maintained that DPDB was a platform which has a “bigger meaning” in discharging government activities in the district.
Kohima being the state capital, he said the district activities are more visible to many of the districts and requested the members to note the importance of the platform and participate regularly in the meeting.
In government sector, the DC said all government activities need convergence of the departments for the successful implementation of the program. He then requested the departments to share their respective ongoing, challenges and proposed activities in the DPDB so as to have a fast delivery mechanism.
Reviewing the last DPDB minutes in regard to registration of Asain Christian School, the house decided to recommend the matter to the government based on the report submitted by the sub-committee for spot verification on the feasibility for opening the school as entrusted by the board in the last meeting.
In this connection, the DC also reminded the concerned department to be cautioned on any proposal for opening of new school in the district stating that mushrooming of private schools have been at large specially in Kohima and Dimapur districts, which needs to be discouraged.
On the agenda for registration of Alumni Kohima College Association, the house referred the matter to the committee for verification and to submit the report to take up in the next meeting.
On Village Adoption Committee (VACs) 2022 – 2023, the DC said the purpose of the committee was to adopt one village or wards in each constituency under the district to assist and address issues in whatever ways possible by the committee members and further requested the committees to initiate the activities.
The constitution of VACs 2022 to 2023 was read out by DPO and member secretary DPDB Kohima during the meeting while Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kohima volunteered to present its departmental activities in the next DPDB meeting. The meeting was also attended by advisor Urban Development, Municipal Affairs and Smart City, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire.
