The office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has asked the Mon district administration to ensure the safety of persons with disabilities in the district.
In a letter addressed to the district commissioner (DC) and chairperson of the district level committee on disability, state commissioner for persons with disabilities, Diethono Nakhro has asked the administration to take note that persons with disabilities were “always the worst affected in any situation of instability in the community.”
She has, therefore, urged for necessary steps to be taken to ensure that persons with disabilities and their families in Oting village, Mon Town and the entire Mon district were safe and their needs were taken care of during the present situation following the tragic incident in Oting village.
In this regard she advised that the district level committee on disability might take charge and do the needful. Disabled People’s Organisations, Disabled Parents Organisations and other NGOs in the sector may also be roped in to gather and impart information and take action where necessary in coordination with the district administration, the letter added.
