DLAC Kma reviews food safety measures; Committee formed

DIMAPUR

The District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) for Safe Food and Healthy Diets convened its meeting on September 10 at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Kohima, under the chairmanship of DC B. Henok Buchem.
According to DIPR report, a key resolution adopted during the meeting was the formation of a Task Force Committee on Food Safety, comprising representatives from relevant departments and stakeholders. The committee will oversee coordination and monitoring of food quality and public health initiatives across the district. The meeting emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene and food safety standards in hotels, restaurants, and other food establishments.
Members stressed the need for safe kitchen practices, proper storage, and strict monitoring of expiry dates to prevent sale of expired or tampered items.
It was noted that food safety directly impacts community health and must not be compromised.
The house also discussed the mandatory requirement for water testing certification in all food businesses. It was resolved that hotels, restaurants, and food vendors must possess valid certification to ensure water used for cooking and drinking is safe. Regular testing and timely renewals were recommended for strict enforcement.
Concerns were raised over the sale of illegally imported food products lacking proper labeling, importer details, and the mandatory FSSAI tag. Members agreed that such practices pose serious risks to consumers and called for stricter checks.
To promote public awareness, the committee resolved to launch large-scale campaigns targeting consumers, vendors, and food business operators. The campaigns will focus on food safety responsibilities and consumer rights.
The meeting was attended by officials from various departments, representatives of organizations, and stakeholders connected with food safety.
