A coordination meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) for the 8th Economic Census (EC) was convened on April 29, 2025, at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kohima. The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kohima, Ruopfükuotuo Noudi.
According to a DIPR report, Noudi emphasized the importance of deploying enumerators and supervisors for data collection and field supervision through an IT-based mobile application.
He highlighted the need for effective publicity via social media platforms and the Committee’s role in monitoring, providing feedback to the State Committee, and facilitating coordination and sensitization efforts at the district level.
District Economics & Statistics Officer of Kohima, Belho, provided a detailed overview of the 8th Economic Census. She explained that the census would cover all establishments, including household enterprises involved in the production or distribution of goods and services.
However, agricultural establishments engaged in crop production and plantations would be excluded. Similarly, non-agricultural establishments related to public administration, defence, compulsory social security, domestic personnel employment, territorial organization activities, and illegal activities would not be included.
Belho highlighted that the 8th Economic Census aims to provide comprehensive data on the operational and economic variables of non-agricultural establishments across various administrative levels—ranging from national to village and ward levels.
She also noted that the census would update the Directory of Establishments and serve as a vital reference frame for future sample surveys. Reflecting on the history of economic censuses, Belho mentioned that seven economic censuses have been conducted since 1977. However, she acknowledged that the data from the 7th Economic Census (2019–2021) could not be released due to various reasons.
