DMC, BAN extend support to street vendors

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) have expressed strong support for the Nagaland Street Vendors Association and assured their willingness to collaborate in addressing the needs of street vendors.
This was stated at the inaugural ceremony of the Street Vendors Association Nagaland held at Hotel Saramati Conference Hall on April 15, which was attended by over 100 street vendors representing various sectors of commerce in Dimapur.
The event was graced by Tianungla, DMC councillor and Lanu Akumtoshi Jamir, convener of the Grievances Cell and Credit Committee at BAN. Tianungla emphasized the importance of the Street Vendors Act, enacted in May 2019 by the Nagaland government, which seeks to protect the rights of urban street vendors and regulate vending activities. Lanu Akumtoshi highlighted strategies to address extortion issues through legal channels and encouraged vendors to avail government schemes such as the CM Micro Finance Scheme and PM SVANidhi Scheme to upgrade their businesses.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Subonglemba Aier, general secretary of the Street Vendors Association Nagaland. Invocation was led by Holito Chishi of SBBC Dimapur.
The welcome address was followed by a presentation for the special guests and a detailed account of the journey from being a street vendor to establishing the association, presented by Kughato Zhimomi, president of the Street Vendors Association Nagaland.
Information was also shared on registration procedures at the association office, obtaining permits from the Municipal Council, and planning surveys for the designation of vending zones. The event concluded with a benediction by Holito Chishi.
