DMC bans open sale of fresh meat

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has informed colonies under its jurisdiction that it has banned all slaughter or processing of animal meat meant for human consumption in unhygienic environments, including sale of meat in open air. 

DMC administrator Moa Sangtam, stated that this ban comes into effect as decided in the meeting held on January 25 between the DMC Veterinary Public Health Cell and representatives of colonies under Dimapur municipality. 

It also directed for all meat animals to be taken to “Modem Slaughter House” located at Burma Camp, for processing. All meat shops are to be upgraded to hygienic conditions, free from dust and flies with clean running water in the shops, DMC stated. DMC further stated that authorities of colonies may impose fines as deemed fit for implementation of the same.
