Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has been ranked as the best performing civic bodies in the state as far as developmental activities is concerned, said Municipal Affairs, Maongwati Aier on Wednesday.
He said this, while inaugurating the construction of box culvert at Residency colony, Wednesday.
According to secretary, DMC could achieve the feat with active participation and support of the citizens.
Encouraging the citizens to pay tax to the civic bodies, Aier said, in other districts most of the citizens failed to pay tax. Due to this, many development activities in these districts were hindered, he added. “Citizens should be willing to pay sanitation tax, tool tax etc”, he added.
On the occasion, Aier also announced the construction of DMC office on Public-private partnership (PPP) mode which was approved by state government.
He said the office would be built soon on mixed land use- multi parking facilities, malls, banking office etc. Once the building completed, it would provide employment opportunities, he added.
DMC CEO, H. Atokhe Aye said box culvert was constructed after it received application from the colony council on the problems faced by them. Aye said, since January 2015, after government allowed DMC to collect tax, various development works on roads, box culverts, dustbins and drainages in Dimapur were taken up. Apart from this, DMC also started a new project on Swachh Bharat where posters and banners put up at various locations, said Aye.
Also, announcing that DMC was going to take up cleanliness drive in a larger way, he said DMC welcome any suggestion and open for constructive criticism.
