DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (NPN): In view of the approaching monsoon season, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on Tuesday conducted an inspection and cleanliness drive at Midland Colony to assess drainage conditions and oversee ongoing sanitation works.
The inspection was led by DMC chairman Hukheto Yepthomi accompanied by sanitation in-charge I. Sentinuklu Jamir, DMC Councillor R. Chubala, nominee Mahesh Agarwal and Ninkansashi.
During the visit, the team inspected vulnerable drain sections and monitored desilting and waste-clearance activities. It was suggested that excavators and sanitation workers be deployed to clear accumulated garbage and blockages from roadside drains to improve water flow ahead of the rainy season.
Officials noted that encroachments in certain areas, along with indiscriminate dumping of waste, had narrowed portions of the drainage network, posing challenges to smooth drainage during heavy rainfall. The team emphasized the need for public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and keeping drainage channels free from obstruction.
DMC officials informed that similar inspection and sanitation drives would be undertaken in other localities as part of the council’s monsoon preparedness initiative.
