
Panel of judges for the Dimapur Municipal Council’s “cleanest colony competition 2020” had been touring various colonies under DMC jurisdiction from the month of August to select the winner for the third quarter (July-September) competition.
A press release by convenor, Khiuzan Kaurinta and secretary, Sentimeren Pongen stated that, judging is based on criteria like garbage management, drainage management, foliage clearance, sanitation and tobacco control. The release also stated that, there would be separate winners for both the categories of big and small colonies. Winner for the quarterly competition will get a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, while the winner for the overall year will get a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000. There will also be a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 for first and second runners up respectively in the annual category. Points for the annual competition will be calculated on the basis of the cumulative points accumulated over the year.
It may also be mentioned here that the competition for the first quarter (January-March) and second quarter (April- June) this year could not be conducted owing to the pandemic and lockdown measures.
Judges are Khiuzan Kaurinta EAC, Sentimeren Pongen, vice-president DNSU, K. Ghokheto Chophy, president NCD, Tsenthungo Nyamo, president (DUCCF, Vimeno, vice-president NWHD, Onen Jamir, general secretary GBUD.
Colony members have been further encouraged to keep their respective colonies clean not only for the prize but for a better, cleaner Dimapur, while the recently formed colony sanitation committees are also expected to take active role in this initiative.
