Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) personnel cleared a long-clogged drainage in Nepali Basti, under Ward-9, on Wednesday as part of a pre-monsoon sanitation drive.
The initiative covered drainage systems near Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Nepali Basti, and Chishi Marketing Complex. It was a collaborative effort led by DMC Ward-9 councillor Lanutoshi S. Yaden, along with sanitation branch in-charge councillors Achum Jami and Nazanbeni Humtsoe.
The drainage had been clogged for years, leading to frequent overflows and waterlogging during rains. Councillor Lanutoshi explained that the cleanup was done ahead of the monsoon season to ensure smooth water flow and to prevent flooding and health risks. He also urged residents to keep the drains clean and avoid dumping waste.
The management of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School highlighted that waste from nearby areas had caused frequent blockages in the drain. Responding to their request, DMC took action to remove the obstruction.
The school authorities thanked DMC councillor Achum Jami for taking the initiative, improving sanitation, and contributing to the welfare of the community.
