DMC employees serve 7-day ultimatum on state govt to release pending salaries

Staff Reporter

Dimapur Municipal Council Employees Welfare Union (DMCEWU)has appealed to the state government and concerned authorities to address the long-pending issue of five months of unpaid salaries for DMC workers.

The union has served a seven-day ultimatum (till July 19) on the government to address the issue, cautioning further action if their demands were not met. Addressing the media on July 11, DMCEWU president Vinoto Ayemi reminded of the union’s multiple representations and ultimatums previously submitted to various officials of Municipal Affairs department.

He highlighted the severe hardships faced by employees and referred to the ultimatum issued on March 7, which warned of a ‘No Pay, No Work’ agitation if salaries were not released.
Following assurances from the concerned authorities, he said the union postponed its planned agitation and agreed to cooperate with the government until May 15. Despite the withdrawal of the Model Code of Conduct enforced during Lok Sabha and ULB elections, the union said the government was yet to take action on their demands.

Pointing out that following the government’s order to close all toll gate tax collections, he said the DMC has lost a vital source of funds. In this regard, the union has appealed to the state government to allow DMC to collect urban utility fees/entry fees from all commercial vehicles entering its jurisdiction.
