DMC launches Meetei waistcoat

DIMAPUR: Dimapur Meetei Council (DMC) organised a launching programme of Meetei waistcoat at Kevijau colony, Dimapur on April 10.
In a press release, DMC president Sarat Thangjam stated that the purpose of creating and launching Meetei waistcoat was to prevent misidentification of the community in Nagaland. The council stated that it did not claim that the waistcoat was an original traditional dress or that the present traditional dress for Meetei men was wrong.
It also stated that the council did not compel any Meetei to wear it but was “an attempt to prevent wrong identification of the community.” Further, DMC appealed to all the Meetei social organisations and members of the Meetei community to accept, adopt and encourage wearing of the waistcoat.
Earlier, the programme was attended by SDO (C) Development, Hotolu Sema as chief guest, Dimapur District Citizens Forum (DDCF) president Yibemo Kikon and other dignitaries from various organisations as guests of honour.
