Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) launched pre-roll out activities of “Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024”, on September 14, at Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) complex. The activities were launched by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, in presence of Chief Executive Officer, DMC, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, and DMC councilors, Achum Jami and Nzanbeni Humtsoe, among others.
Addressing the launching programme, Dr Chang expressed hope that the awareness of the campaign would reach all public across the district, and emphasized that if we keep our surrounding clean, the whole of Dimapur would remain clean. Stating that the Swachh Baharat Mission (SBM) was an initiative of the government of India to keep India clean, following the vision of Clean India, a vision of Mahatma Gnadhi.
Meanwhile, CEO, DMC, Tungoe delivering the introductory message, stated that Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, under SBM campaign, seeks to reignite the spirit of collective action and citizen participation in cleanliness efforts across India.
Dwelling on the activities to be carried out under the campaign, he informed that mini marathon for sanitation workers, poster making and waste to art competitions among school students, beautification activities under DMC jurisdiction, Swachh campaign in schools, colleges, and churches, and others, would be conducted.
He also informed that Team Better Dimapur would also be conducting cleanliness drive across Dimapur under the campaign. Earlier, the programme was chaired by JE, DMC, Imnamen Anichar, and invocation offered by president, Nagaland Baptist Pastors Union, Pastor Imnatoshi Longkumer.
A Swachhta pledge was also taken, initiated by president, TBD, & co-coordinator, Swachhata Hi Seva, Mhonjan Lotha. It may be noted that actual launching of the “Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024”, would be held on September 17 across the country and culminate on October 2, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
