Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has decided to initiate developmental works for the betterment of Dimapur by focussing on roads and drains in within thier jurisdiction which had been left neglected for many years.
DMC board members and staff have been geared up to the task following permission granted to the council by the High Powered Committee to collect toll taxes after the lease granted to contractors expired on November 30 last year.
The municipal council staff have taken up road works at Murgi Patti as the first phase and to be followed phase-wise in other parts of the city in the coming months.
Some amount from the income generated out of toll tax collection is being used in the road work being undertaken at Murgi Patti.
This Reporter had witnessed the works being undertaken in the area by DMC officials and staff.
The road had been neglected for many years though it serves as one of the arterial roads linking G.S.Road with N.L.Road.
When toll tax was leased to contractors, the DMC received much less amount than what its staff collected for a period during last year.
Despite the huge differences in toll collection, the state government had gone ahead in issuing lease to contractors even as DMC employees expressed strong resentment. After the expiry of the lease, a meeting of the chief minister, chief secretary, parliamentary secretary (urban development department),executive officer DMC agreed to set up the High Powered Committee to look into the matter.
The HPC then permitted DMC to collect toll taxes from January to March 2015.
DMC sources told this Reporter, that the project initiatives has also served to inspire the employees and staff to be partners for progress and development of Dimapur city.
Meanwhile, DMC has appealed to all concerend Dimapur citizens to extend co-operation while carrying out the road repair/expansion works that would be carried out in other parts of the city in the next phase.
