In a concerted effort to raise awareness and to attain saturation of flagship schemes of the government ensuring that the benefits of the schemes reach all targeted beneficiaries, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) organised Vikshit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (VBSY) at Deputy Commissioner (DC) Court Junction, Friday.
Addressing a gathering of council members, elders, and beneficiaries, deputy secretary, ministry of Health and Family Welfare, government of India, Dr. Poonam Meena, who is also the state nodal officer for VBSY, emphasised the importance of the event in disseminating information about various central government schemes. In a keynote address, DC Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang highlighted the extensive coverage of the yatra across villages and towns under Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts.
He underscored the significance of reaching out to genuine beneficiaries who might have missed out on government schemes due to a lack of awareness. The DC urged the community to play active role in spreading information to ensure wider participation.
Emphasizing the importance of supporting those below the poverty line, Dr. Chang asserted that the district’s development also depends on assisting the less privileged.
Earlier, in a welcome address, DMC administrator, W Manpai Phom said VBSY has been organised four times under the council’s jurisdiction. He said the first leg commended on December 2023. The programme was chaired by Urban Development Officer, Dimapur, Chate U Kezo, while beneficiaries of various schemes including PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbharNidhi (PM SVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana shared their stories. Following the event, information desks for medical, PM Ujwala, Urban Development, and SBI were set up at the venue to provide additional awareness and information to beneficiaries.
