DMC reiterates ban on Single-Use Plastic

DIMAPUR, JUN 19 (NPN): Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has reiterated that the ban on single-use plastic (SUP) remains in force within its jurisdiction and warned of strict action against violators.
DMC chief executive officer Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo referred to the council’s September 13, 2024 notification prohibiting SUP and reminded business establishments, commercial institutions, traders, dealers, shopkeepers, vendors and the public that the ban continues in accordance with state government directives.
DMC noted that despite repeated notifications and awareness campaigns, some establishments and individuals continue to manufacture, stock, distribute, sell and use prohibited SUP items in violation of government directives. The council directed all concerned to strictly comply with the ban and adopt environmentally friendly alternatives such as biodegradable and reusable carry bags.
DMC informed that inspection and enforcement drives would be intensified and warned that anyone found manufacturing, storing, selling, distributing or using prohibited SUP items would face action.
DMC also appealed for public cooperation to make Dimapur cleaner, greener and environmentally sustainable. The directive takes immediate effect.
