DMC-repaired road at Murgi Patti inaugurated

Road that was widened and repaired by Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) with the money collected as toll tax was inaugurated Friday by the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Wezope Kenye, in the presence of DMC administrator H Atokhe Aye, DMC officials and others. DMC with the money collected in the month of January 2015 has so far widened and repaired road at Murgi Patti connecting Nyamo Lotha Road, GS Road and MP Road.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Kenye lauded the DMC administrator, officials and workers for the “successful achievement”. He said the work was commendable as they have widened and repaired the most congested and bad road of Dimapur.
Kenye said that it was now up to the public to look after the road and ensure proper maintenance. DC further asked the public to cooperate with DMC for better development and progress of Dimapur.
Lamenting that the public did not care for government properties, DC reminded all responsible that government properties were public properties. With regard to this, he urged the public to have a sense of belongingness and preserve the properties for the general welfare.
Earlier, DMC administrator H Atokhe Aye reiterated that toll tax collection was meant for developmental works and lauded the government of Nagaland led by the chief minister T.R. Zeliang for allowing DMC to collect toll tax for the months January – March.
Asserting the road widening and major repairing works were done with the money collected through toll tax, Aye said DMC collected an amount of Rs 70 lakhs of which 40% was used for salaries and office maintenance and 60% for developmental works.
He said Murgi Patti was earmarked for major repairing as the area was a prime location for wholesalers of vegetable and fruits supplied to the whole district and outside.
Stating that the road was left abandoned for the last 25 years, he said DMC has also started widening and made major repairing on Old Masjid road/ Hazi Park road that connected to railway road.
