DMC responds to viral post

Staff Reporter

A recent incident of a lady falling into a pavement hole in Duncan Basti area that went viral in social media has prompted reaction from the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). As per the viral social media post, the incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. on May 13, wherein a lady, who was a local resident and had eyesight problem, accidentally fell into the pavement hole between New Hope Cafe and Barista due to darkness in the area.

The victim was with her sister and was returning home after visiting some relatives. After being rescued immediately by some bystanders, she was rushed to a private hospital where she received treatment due to injuries at her left elbow and neck. The post detailing the experience quickly gained traction on social media.

Responding to the viral post, DMC administrator W Manpai Phom informed Nagaland Post that measures were being taken to address the issue. He said instruction had been issued to a DMC inspector to assess the site, adding that there was a plan to cover the pavement hole with cement slabs. He mentioned that a temporary bamboo signage would be installed by Tuesday morning to warn pedestrians of the hazard until the permanent solution was implemented.
