DMC urges timely waste disposal; warns of penalties for violators

DIMAPUR

Sanitation Branch of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), led by councillors Achum Jami and Nzanbeni Humtsoe, has appealed to the residents within DMC jurisdiction to dispose household and commercial waste strictly within the designated time window of 6 pm to 5 am.
In a press release, the sanitation in-charges expressed concern over continued violations despite prior instructions, noting that waste is frequently dumped outside the prescribed hours—particularly after scheduled collection—leading to unsanitary conditions, public inconvenience, and defacement of shared spaces.
The release informed that indiscriminate garbage disposal hampers the efforts of sanitation workers and poses serious health and environmental risks.
In this regard, residents have been urged to uphold civic responsibility and actively discourage others from violating the waste disposal schedule.
DMC cautioned that strict action, including penalties under the Municipal Act and other legal provisions, will be enforced against individuals or entities found flouting the guidelines.
The council reiterated its commitment to maintaining public hygiene and called for collective cooperation in keeping Dimapur clean and safe.
