DMC workers clear clogged drain near railway tracks

In an effort to tackle urban flooding and improve sanitation, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) workers cleared a clogged drainage channel near a railway track recently.
The sanitation staff entered knee-deep water to remove plastic waste, sludge and debris that had blocked the flow of water.
The culvert was choked with garbage including bottles, wrappers, fabric waste and organic matter.
Officials stated the clean-up was part of DMC’s routine monsoon clearance drive to prevent water stagnation and ensure smoother drainage. The site, located beside active railway lines, is considered a critical zone needing regular attention.
The operation was part of DMC’s ongoing drainage clearance drive to prevent flooding and improve flow of wastewater.
One sanitation worker said the problem of clogged drains would persist unless the public stopped throwing waste directly into drain channels.
DMC is expected to continue similar clean-up efforts at other critical points in Dimapur city.
