In observance of World Mental Health Day 2025, the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Wokha, in collaboration with the Wokha District Legal Service Authority (WDLSA), organised a Marathon Race under the theme “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies” at Wokha town on Thursday.
The event commenced with the flagging off of the marathon by Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Wokha, Dr. Mhonchan N. Kithan, at Zero Point. The race concluded at Police Point, where a brief awareness programme was held to highlight the importance of mental health and access to care during emergencies.
Winners of both male and female categories were felicitated by SDO (Civil) Wokha, Echungbemo Erui, who also encouraged participants to serve as ambassadors for mental health awareness in their communities.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mhonchan N. Kithan spoke on common indicators of mental health challenges such as helplessness, loss of interest in daily activities, sleeplessness and hopelessness. He urged individuals experiencing such symptoms to seek professional support.
Psychiatrist, District Hospital Wokha, Dr. Wothungo Jami, emphasized the need for accessible mental health care during times of crisis and called on the public to end the stigma surrounding mental illness. He encouraged collective support for those affected.
The programme was chaired by Clinical Psychologist DMHP, Amenla Longkumer, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Panel Lawyer WDLSA, Shanchobeni P. Lotha.
