Dmu contractors for early completion of road projects

Noting that many roads in the town were becoming worse by the day with the onset of monsoon, Dimapur District Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (DDNCSU) has urged the State government, particularly Roads & Bridges department, to complete the works in time.

At a general body meeting held at its office at PWD Colony on June 26, the union stressed that bridge projects, mainly the one connecting the town from Purana Bazar to Walford Colony and Nagarjan bridge, had to be completed at the earliest in order to ease traffic congestion. It said the two bridges were the main concern for the general public as well.

Observing that in comparison with Kohima, progress of works in Dimapur was very slow even though work orders were issued several months ago, DDNCSU said it would try to reach out to all the ongoing works in Dimapur district by deputing its action committee members to take first hand information on the progress of works.

Urging the department concerned and contractors to cooperate, the union warned that any lapse on the part of the department or concerned contractor would be reported to the higher authority. It also expressed concern over the quality of roads in the district.

Further observing that the experimental German technology road project between Dhobinalla and Thahekhu junction was found to be viable and durable for the State as the road condition remained good during both dry and rainy seasons, DDNCSU appealed to the government to study the method in detail, so that it could be replicated in other districts as well.

The meeting also deliberated on some major abandoned projects like the new market complex, which had become unhygienic and a den for illegal activities. The union also reaffirmed its stand to the government that all contract  works should be allotted only through open tenders, adding only valid NCSU card holder were eligible to take part in the tender process. It reminded the concerned department in the district to abide by the resolution.

The meeting also discussed other issues, included the progress of various ongoing works, particularly the road and bridge projects in various pockets of Dimapur district. This was stated in a press release by DDNCSU president Hotoshe Chophy and general secretary A Tureng.
