DMU Kma restores 172.86 hectares of Jhum area

To commemorate the world environment day, the Divisional Management Unit (DMU), Kohima division restored 172.86 hectares of Jhum area by planting 69,200 tree saplings under Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) on June 4.


The saplings were planted at Zhadima ‘A’ village under Chiephobozou Range and Nsunyu, Phenwhenyu, Terogvunyu, Kandinu, Tseminyu, Tsosinyu and Ehunnu villages under Tseminyu Range, under the theme, “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.”


A press release by DMU Team, Kohima, NFMP informed that this year, the World Environment campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience which emphasized on the collective effort needed to restore land and ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and combat climate change.


It may be mentioned that under the Mission Amrit Sarovar, which aimed to conserve water for the future, the Amrit Sarovar at Tuophema PECCA (Protection and Expansion of Community Conservation Area) has undergone a remarkable rejuvenation, with the collective efforts of the entire community and the Nagaland Forest Management Project, Kohima Division. The collaborative initiative has not only revitalized the water body but also enhanced the lives of the local community and wildlife.
