Mobile food testing laboratory christened as “Food Safety on Wheels” will be visiting markets here on Tuesday and Wednesday to collect samples of edible substances, including edible oils, water, milk, beverages, spices, etc.
According to food safety officer of Dimapur Sendong Jamir, this is part of the newly-launched scheme “Strengthening of Food Testing System” of Food Safety & Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) to create a network of modern food testing laboratory at the State level.
The main aims of this scheme are to create awareness and sensitise vendors and consumers on food safety, check for common adulterants in food and transport samples from remote areas to the food testing laboratory.
Earlier, Dr K Vikato Kinimi formally launched the “Food Safety on Wheels” here on Monday. He urged the public and local authorities to extend their support and co-operation to the initiative to ensure that safe and nutritious food are sold and consumed in the State’s commercial hub.
