Dimapur, the commercial capital as well as the den for illegal and multiple taxations will witness another mega rally on Wednesday (October 31) when normal life will come to a grinding halt as residents of the city and suburbs congregate at a “Public Rally Against Illegal Taxation And Rampant Collections”, organized by Public Action Committee (PAC) under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) at Khermahal junction at 10 a.m.
While most observers believe that a mega rally, if at all, was to send a strong message to prod the unwilling government to bell the cat, there are those who recall that so many rallies in the past had failed to move the government. On the other hand, the PAC said that the proposed rally was expected to be the “largest gathering in the history of Dimapur” and anticipated a turnout of more than a lakh.
PAC even claimed that such rally, which is to be the mother of all rallies, will certainly become “a turning point in history of Nagaland”. Leaving no stone unturned to make and break the record in attendance, the PAC has appealed to all the citizens of Dimapur “to sacrifice and join the rally in their traditional attires against the illegal collections by various agencies which is seriously affecting every section of the society economically and mentally.”
Quite wary of elements who could try to disturb the rally, the PAC has appealed to public to maintain decorum failing which the community leaders would be held responsible for any untoward incident.
All business establishments have also been asked to remain closed till after 12 noon. PAC also informed that the seating arrangements have been made according to the community wise.
Besides the unabated, illegal and multiple taxations which make them the only cottage industry in the state; there are also many involved in adulteration of food and fuel. However, for whatever reasons, the authorities seem to be unmoved by the mushrooming of illegal activities.
