DNSU appeals for summer break extension in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, JUN 30 (NPN)

Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU) has appealed to the school education department to extend summer break due from July 14 -28 with an additional 20 days till the fourth week of August 2025, in view of peak summer heat at Dimapur.
A statement issued by DNSU general secretary Michael Kath and secretary education Kevin Gonmei said the ongoing extreme weather conditions were causing significant hardship for both students and teachers in Dimapur’s urban areas. In addition, DNSU cited issues like water logging and occasional flooding which have made the situation worse.
DNSU also pointed out to frequent power outages and load shedding which were common during monsoon season. The Union said most schools lack power backup which only increased discomfort and creates serious obstacles in carrying out regular classes during the summer peak.
DNSU has also proposed an alternative adjustment to the academic calendar.
Given Dimapur’s relatively milder winter, DNSU said a longer duration of classes during winter could offer students with sufficient time to complete syllabus without the health concerns associated with peak summer heat. DNSU expressed the hope the school education department would consider its appeal.
