Asserting Teachers’ Day should remain a celebration of respect and gratitude, and not a source of stress or obligation for students, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has appealed to school administrations to avoid assigning token-selling duties to students and to explore safer, more inclusive ways to celebrate the occasion.
DNSU through its media cell stated that in some cases students were being asked to sell badges or tokens outside their schools to recover the collected amount. The union said that such practice, especially in the current hot weather, placed an unnecessary burden on students and compromises their comfort and dignity.
Stating that it “fully supports” meaningful celebrations to appreciate teachers, DNSU, however, maintained that students should not be put in situations where their well-being was at risk.
Meanwhile, DNSU has urged the school education authorities to review the process of collection to ensure that it did not unintentionally lead to hardships for students or schools.
The union also encouraged parents and the public to report any instances where students were made to sell tokens so concerns could be addressed promptly and constructively.
Reiterating its commitment to student welfare and dignity, DNSU expressed hope that this Teachers’ Day would be celebrated in the true spirit of appreciation and unity.
