DoH&FW discontinues GNM program; introduces B.Sc nursing from 2025-26

KOHIMA

The Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW), Kohima, has officially announced that the General Nurse and Midwife (GNM) course will be discontinued from the academic year 2025–26. This move aligns with the department’s initiative to upgrade nursing education across the state.
According to the notification, three existing Schools of Nursing located at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, District Hospital Dimapur, and Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital Mokokchung have now been elevated to full-fledged Colleges of Nursing. Beginning with the 2025–26 academic session, these institutions will offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing) program.
Admission to the new program will be conducted through the Combined University Entrance Test (CUET-UG). Seat allotments for the colleges will be managed by the Directorate of Technical Education, which will issue further notifications regarding the application process.

The Directorate has advised all aspiring nursing candidates to take note of these changes and refer to the respective websites for timely updates regarding admissions and eligibility criteria.
