A five-day training on implementation of Integrated Watershed management Programme (IWMP) was imparted to the field officers consisting of DPO/APOs, Assistant Inspector and WDT (M) from February 9-13 at the Resource Centre, Ruzhaphema, Department of Land Resources.
The training was especially designed keeping in mind the skills needed to properly and efficiently implement the IWMP projects which is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Rural Development, DoLR, Government of India.
The trainees were updated on the latest guidelines and directives as per the Ministry and how to implement them in the right perspective. The particular training was organized to train the field officers to understand better their work environment keeping themselves abreast with the latest technologies and avenues to facilitate the economic growth of the rural people who are the targeted group. The resource persons for the training were Dr. K Haloi (NIRD, NERC, Guwahati), Santanu Deka (IIE, GUwahati), Anand Sambre (ESSEN, Multipack Ltd. Rajkot), Lezo Putsure (YouthNet), Dr. Pulakova Choudhury (KVK, Longleng), Dr. Dibyendu Chatterjee (ICAR, Jharnapani) and Lichan Humtsoe covering a vast area of topics including preparation of DPR, livelihood and micro-enterprise, soft-skills and photography, etc.
The training also included field visits and hands-on practical session. During the inaugural session, Mhathung Yanthan, Director of Land Resources, in his keynote address, encouraged the trainees to be more conversant with the concept and guidelines of IWMP in order to implement it systematically. He also wished them the best for the training while emphasizing that learning has no age limit.
In the valedictory function, Hoto Yeptho, Additional Director, exhorted the trainees to be sincere, efficient and honest in order to enable them to be successful in every aspect. Senti Ao, Additional Secretary, Department of Land Resources, in his short speech, reminded the participants to re-assess their strength and weaknesses and transfer the knowledge gained from the training to the field.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Puvil Kikhi, Project Officer. Altogether, 70 participants where T Renben Lotha, Joint Director, and Albert E Ngullie were the Course Director and Course Coordinator respectively.
