Don Bosco Kohima set to celebrate 50 years

Don Bosco (DB) Kohima is all set to celebrate 50 years of its existence during this current year 2021, under the theme, “Towards a better world with Don Bosco”. The yearlong golden jubilee event will kick off on January 31 coinciding with the “Feast Day” of Don Bosco and will culminate at year end. 

Briefing media persons on its activities and the preparation at the campus, Wednesday, rector DBS campus, Fr. Dr. Suresh Innocent said it was a proud moment for the institute to have attained 50 years of its inception and look forward for grand celebration. 

Convener Don Bosco golden jubilee organizing committee, K. D Vizo said throughout the year, different events would be conducted like music, art, literary for both young and old, adding that it would also promote the ideology and teachings of Don Bosco. 

Don Bosco Kohima will be the second to celebrate golden jubilee after Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha which was celebrated in 2015. 

The yearlong event will culminate during the second week of November before final exam begins, added Fr. T. P James, principal DBHSS Kohima. 

It may be mentioned that in 1975, the first batch comprising of 9 students matriculated from Don Bosco Kohima. Till today (1975-2020) there were 3588 people who matriculated from Don Bosco Kohima while there were 1141 (1997-2000) persons who passed out in HSSLC science. Another 858 people passed out in HSSLC Arts during 2011-2020. 

Don Bosco also introduced degree courses (arts) in 2015 and the institute will be introducing commerce at degree level this year. 

Altogether there are currently 2200 students studying in Don Bosco institute. Further during the last 50 years, 9 rectors, 13 principals, 158 teachers and 30 others have served in the institute. General secretary DB Golden jubilee organizing Committee Vitsu Yhome was also present at the press briefing.
