In a light-hearted road safety awareness campaign, Meghalaya Police have shared an AI-generated video, which has gone viral, featuring US President Donald Trump being fined for driving on the wrong lane along the National Highway 6 (NH-6) in Ri-Bhoi district — a clip that has quickly gone viral on social media.
The five-second humorous video clip posted on Ri-Bhoi police Facebook and Instagram pages shows Trump shaking hands with local police officers after paying the fine. The post’s caption read: “POTUS (President of the United States) was travelling in a ‘Slow Moving Truck’ in the ‘Right Lane’ when he was stopped near Umnget and e-challan was issued. After being briefed about traffic rules, he thanked the police team for their efforts. Looks like we’ll get the Nobel Prize for Road Safety next year! Disclaimer: Pun intended.”
Meghalaya Police has initiated several steps to reduce road accidents along the NH-6 in Ri-Bhoi district, primarily through a multi-pronged strategy focusing on enforcement, education, and the use of technology.
“The idea was to spread awareness through humour as part of our campaign to spread awareness about traffic rules and road safety. We want people to talk about these issues — because when people talk, awareness grows,” Vivekanand Singh Rathore, the district police chief of Ri-Bhoi, said.
He said the multi-pronged strategy to curb road accidents on the NH-6 has drastically reduced.
Ri-Bhoi police have been emphasising that slow-moving vehicles should not occupy the right lane in a multi-lane road but should instead stick to the left to avoid road mishap. “Lane driving has improved considerably,” he said. “We collected around Rs 75 lakh in fines in October alone from traffic violators,” Rathore said.
