DIMAPUR: A consultative meeting of the Ward Waste Management Committee (WMC) was held at Longleng on Thursday under the chairpersonship of Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of Longleng Town, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, to deliberate on sanitation issues and discuss the early implementation of sanitation services across commercial and residential areas.
According to a DIPR report, after thorough discussion, the house adopted several resolutions to be executed with immediate effect.
Door-to-door collection of segregated waste will begin in all wards from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with a minimum hold of 20 minutes at each ward.
User fee of Rs. 50 per household has been fixed, of which Rs. 10 will be reserved for WMC operations. Collection process requires WMC to deposit the amount in the bank and submit acknowledgment receipts or hand over cash at the Administrator’s office.
Waste pick-up points and household details must be identified and submitted to the office. Secondary depots in the form of elevated platforms will be created subject to space availability. Dual bin segregation is mandatory for all households.
Penalties will be imposed for unethical littering, disposal of biodegradable waste at secondary depots, and burning of waste products. Plastic waste purchase will be undertaken by the Urban Local Body (ULB) at Rs. 10 per kg. Non-payment consequences include ward authorities and concerned departments refraining from issuing essential documents and public distribution system benefits.
