DoP launches ‘Electrical Safety Week’

Department of Power (DoP) has launched a week-long “Electrical Safety Week” on February 6 under the theme “Safety By Choice Not By Chance” at Lineman training Centre, Electrical colony Nagarjan, Dimapur.
At the launching programme, Engineer-in-Chief, Department of Power, Er.Moa Aier stressed on the importance of training of field staff for all the category before their next promotion.
He shared the department vision of setting up a professional training institute where all categories of staffs at different level such as field officers, Bill Assistant, Meter Reader, Accounts, Field staff, etc will be trained and the institute will be upgraded to Nagaland Power Training Institute.
He therefore advised the field staff to confirm twice about the line shutdown and clearance while on the job.
Aier further said that the department with a meager fund was trying its best to procure few basic safety gears for the field staff and the gear will be issued only after the staff were trained.
Speaking on the importance of observing the safety week, Chief Engineer (T&G), Er.Penrithung Yanthan said most of the accidents occur due to ignorance, carelessness and mindlessness.
He advised all the officers and staff to read, learn and adopt the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) which has been approved and circulated to all divisions. He also emphasized on practicing Personal Protective Grounding (PPG) before the start of any work on electrical line.
He further requested all to be responsible, learn the Standard Operating Procedure and create awareness to the other staffs also.
Er.Wapangmeren Jamir Addl Chief Engineer (D&R), Er.Kasho Chishi Addl Chief Engineer (T&G) and representative from All Nagaland Electrical Field Worker Association also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was chaired by Er.Rukongutuo Suohu SE(E) Dimapur Circle, Power point presentation on Standard Operating Procedure on shutdown and recharge of line was given by Er.Namheu Khate SDO(E) LMTC.
Earlier, the launching programme began with an invocation by Aghovi Chishi and vote of thanks by Er.Akavi Chophy EE MIS.
