DoPN seeks public support for power reforms

DIMAPUR

Department of Power, Nagaland (DoPN) has appealed to the electricity consumers to extend cooperation in the ongoing implementation of Reforms-Based and Results-Linked Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), launched by the Ministry of Power in July 2021.
In a press release, chief engineer (D&R) stated that RDSS aims to enhance the quality, reliability, and affordability of power supply by building a financially sustainable and operationally efficient electricity distribution system.
The scheme comprises two major components: Smart Prepaid Metering for consumers and system metering, and System Improvement through interventions aimed at reducing power losses.
The department said that implementation of the scheme has been actively underway in a phased manner since February 2025, starting with Dimapur, Kohima, and Chümoukedima. It said that officers and staff have been engaging with stakeholders through sensitisation programmes, involving urban local bodies, colony councils, and consumers in various wards.
Reaffirming access to electricity was a fundamental right, DoPN clarified that method and means of delivering service were governed by rules and policies of government. It also reminded that payment for services was a fundamental duty of every citizen.
The department said that for the successful and timely implementation of the scheme, cooperation from all stakeholders was crucial. It urged the public to support both the department and Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) to help improve state’s power infrastructure without delays.
