Defaulting consumers include those who have not paid electricity bills such as government offices, SPM villages, pre-paid consumers and illegal/unauthorized connections.

In a press release, executive engineer, Shiludi Lkr, has, therefore, requested all category of consumers (Urban and Rural areas) under Kohima electrical division to clear their electricity bills in order to avoid inconvenience. Further, it warned the public not to resort to illegal/unauthorized usage of electricity in the form of hooking, tampering of Energy Meter, By-passing of Energy meter etc. as it was a serious offence.

It cautioned that such illegal/unauthorized usage would invite penalty in the form of fine/imprisonment or both as per Indian Electricity Act, 2003. The department also requested the consumers to read the information printed on the back of the Electricity Bill and to note that “Non-receipt of bills is not a valid excuse for failure to make payment within due date. Duplicate bill may be obtained from local Office on demand“.

In case of any discrepancies and any other grievances in the bill, the consumers could visit the offices of their respective SDO(E) No. I, II, Ill for clarification, correction, and rectification.
