Department of Power Nagaland (DoPN) would be making special effort to handle power theft and take measures to improve revenue collection in Dimapur district.
In a press release, principal secretary power KD Vizo stated that a special team headed by addl. secretary of power would visit Dimapur district every fortnight to study ways and means of controlling power theft and improve revenue collection in Dimapur district. Apart from taking initiatives to control power theft, principal secretary said the special team would be monitoring the attendance of both office and field staff in Dimapur and Chumukedima electrical divisions.
Further, the team would educate the citizens of Dimapur to accept pre-paid metering system and adopt energy saving methods. The principal secretary pointed out that Dimapur district was consuming more than 50% of the power that was being supplied in the State. However, he said that due to rampant power theft in Dimapur district the overall power revenue of the power department was falling short and there was an urgent need to control the situation.
Asserting that proper technical mechanisms were already in place, Vizo said that if power theft was controlled and proper energy saving methods were adopted there should be no overloading or load shedding in Dimapur district.
DoPN has, therefore, appealed to all citizens of Dimapur district to extend cooperation in controlling power theft so unnecessary overloading or load shedding could be avoided.
