DoSE intensifies checking teachers’ attendance

Correspondent

Adviser of school education, Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, informed that the department has intensified checking the attendance of teachers with the help of geo-positioning and artificial intelligence to stimulate more productivity.
Dr. Yhome who is currently on a two-day visit to Zunheboto district to inspect government schools, said that taking the attendance of teachers from within the school compound would provide real-time data of the situation.
After inspecting the lone primary school at Akhakhu village under Zunheboto district, Dr.Yhome disclosed that DoSe was undertaking a tedious process of compiling an assessment of all the teachers under the department. He pointed out that in school education, Zunheboto district was dropping in enrolment. “There are 49 private schools and 223 government schools under Zunheboto district out of which 7,117 students are in government schools while 11,126 are in the private schools,” he said.
Dr. Yhome stressed the need to recognise feeder schools in all villages, which would in turn help in better enrolment and accordingly help better utilisation of resources.
He also urged upon villagers to encourage teachers in their place of postings since they were sacrificing a lot and such actions should be encouraged. He also said village councils should ensure that teachers get proper accommodation in their place of postings along with other amenities.
Sharing his observation from the recent assessment tours he had undertaken with department officials, Dr. Yhome said it was important to first extend help to those schools that were struggling to stay afloat.
Earlier, the adviser held interactions with school authorities at Aghunato Government Higher Secondary School, Aghiyilimi, and Tizu Island.
He was accompanied by the school education director, WonthungoTsopoe, department officials, district administration, Eastern Sumi Students’ Union led by its president and village leaders.
The advisor is slated to hold a public meeting at Zunheboto on Wednesday with department officials, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to discuss ways to improve the education system and also highlight the new systems that would be put into place.
