Transport dept to set up IDTR: The transport department is contemplating to set up Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) at Tsiesema, Kohima.
It is envisaged that the institute with state of the art facilities will impart professional training on driving with focus on road safety to be funded by the Central government through the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Konyak said with rising cases of accident-related deaths in the State mostly ascribed to driving error, the transport department realised the importance of establishing the driving institute to inculcate on-road driving skills under different conditions among the drivers. The IDTR project has been estimated at Rs 18.50 crore while 10 to 15 acres of land would be required, which is supposed to be acquired by the State government. The department has forwarded the matter to Land Revenue department for approval of State Land Acquisition Authority.
