DIMAPUR, SEP 23 (NPN): Land Owners’ Union (LOU) of Doyang Hydro Power Station (DHPS), Wokha, has served a final ultimatum on North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) Ltd, giving the management until October 1, 2026 to address longstanding demands concerning livelihood, employment and development of land-affected communities.
In a representation to NEEPCO managing director, LOU, DHPS president P Roland Ezung and general secretary Sorenthung Patton said repeated representations over the years had failed to result in implementation of commitments and assurances made to the affected landowners. The union said the loss of ancestral land had deprived affected families of their primary sources of livelihood and caused economic hardship while the power project continued its operations.
LOU has sought action within seven days from September 24, 2026 including a special Grade-IV recruitment drive in line with the original agreement signed on February 28, 1984, appointment of local security guards at DHPS and recruitment of qualified local candidates for teaching and non-teaching posts at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, DHPS.
It also demanded that the Junior Engineer examination for civil, mechanical and electrical posts against DHPS vacancies be conducted at Doyang, with preference given to qualified land-affected candidates.
Other demands include relocating the finance and accounts wing to its former location at DHPS and sanctioning additional funds for infrastructure development at the project during 2026-27 beyond the regular allocation.
The union warned that if the demands were not fulfilled or a legally binding written agreement reached by 5pm on October 1, it would initiate democratic and peaceful action, including indefinite sit-ins at the project site and non-violent disruption of project functioning and operations.
LOU cautioned that NEEPCO management would bear responsibility for any operational delays, financial losses or escalation arising from failure to act before the deadline.
