District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Dimapur has resolved to tackle the dengue situation collectively instead of leaving the onus with the Health department alone, even as the latter admitted that dengue has become an epidemic.
According to DIPR, the resolution was taken at the monthly DPDB meeting held under the chairmanship of advisor for labour and employment & skill development, excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, who is also the chairman of DPDB Dimapur, on September 19, 2023,
With the rising number of dengue cases in Dimapur district, advisors Moatoshi and Hekani Jakhalu unsecured the need for immediate remedial measures for controlling the breeding ground of the mosquitoes.
DC Dimapur, medical superintendent and medical department were entrusted with the responsibility to convene a meeting with all the council members and teachers under Dimapur district for addressing the Dengue issue.
On the issue of blood shortage, DPDB members agreed to participate in the blood donation drive on September 23, 2023 and entrusted MS Dimapur for coordinating with the officers.
The issue for urgent need of a blood separator would be taken up by the advisors with the responsible authority. The proposal has already been put up with the higher authority by MS office.
Briefing on the status of dengue on behalf of health department, MS Dimapur admitted that dengue has become an epidemic.
Dr. Kavito informed that the district task force held awareness meeting and deliberated on source reduction, but regretted that it was not working. Thereof, he said door to door campaign was being carried out presently and has covered more than 2000 houses.
Stressing on community participation, he called upon the citizens to come forward in tackling dengue.
With regard to the flood situation in Dimapur, RO Dimapur informed the members that 29 locations required attention as per the field report.
The report noted that out of the 29 sites identified, 13 locations required eviction as the drainage systems were being affected due to structural factor.
RO said that the way forward would be cleaning the blocked drainages, increasing the size of narrow culverts and eviction.
In this regard, DC and RO were entrusted to bring out the list and to immediately issue notice for removing of the structures hampering the drainage systems.
The board also reviewed the installation of CCTVs in the shops and around Dimapur city. The progress was highlighted by DCP Dimapur. DPDB Dimapur chairman suggested giving the detailed project report prepared by the department for further discussion with the higher authority.
Other agendas included registration of societies and installation of Synthetic Football Turf and related Civil works development at State Sport Hostel Training Centre Dimapur.
