Advisor of Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Excise, and chairman of District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) Dimapur, Moatoshi Longkumer has attributed recent flood damage in the district to rampant encroachment.
Speaking at the monthly DPDB meeting held on Monday, Moatoshi informed that the committee formed in 2023 to address encroachment issues will be restructured. The revamped committee will include chairpersons of Dimapur Municipal Council and East Dimapur Municipal Council, along with legal counsel, and is expected to submit its report within two months. He stressed that preventing disasters is a collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to cooperate in tackling such challenges.
Advisor for Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu also addressed the meeting, sharing updates on international cooperation efforts and a MoU signed between the state government and Japan. She noted Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio’s commitment to expanding global partnerships.
The meeting approved new society registrations, including Itiki Society, while recommending Kiye Foundation’s registration subject to NOC from the Medical department. Renaming proposals for Saku Mission College to Livingstone Foundation College and St. Xavier’s School, Purana Bazaar to Cedar Heights School were also approved.
Further, the board cleared the NOC for Makar Skills Development and LADP 2025–26 proposals for Dimapur I, II, and II A/C. Presentations were made by the Departments of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and more presentations are expected from DMC and Urban Development Department in the next meeting.
It was also decided to keep all new Welfare Society registrations in abeyance until further notice. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang encouraged members to remain active and work collectively for the district’s development.
