DIMAPUR: The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) Kohima was held on May 26 at the DPDB Hall, Kohima, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman DPDB Kohima, B. Henok Buchem.
Reviewing the previous meeting, ADC Kohima, Ruopfûkuotuo Noudi, presented details of the upcoming blood donation campaign, an initiative of DPDB Kohima. He informed that the camp will be held at the Capital Cultural Hall on June 12, 2026, with Governor of Nagaland Nand Kishore Yadav as the special guest, and requested all district offices to bring at least five members each for blood donation.
The board recommended Widows Nouzhie Society, Hospital Colony, Kohima, for society registration. On the issue of water supply to the 10th NAP (IR) Headquarters at Zhadima, EE PHED, Er. Sedevilie Suohu, informed that the provision under JJM I has been saturated, but the proposal could be recommended to the Centre for inclusion under JJM II.
DEO Kohima, Emilo Patton, presented reports on the introduction of the Arts stream at GHSS Kigwema and the Science stream at GHSS Jotsoma, both of which fulfilled the required criteria. The board decided to recommend the introduction of the respective streams.
The DPDB also felicitated Visezono Vakha, daughter of Kepecato Vakha and student of Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, for securing the highest aggregate score of 92.1% in the HSLC Examination 2026 among government schools in Kohima district. She was awarded a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
Assistant Electoral Officer (AEO) Kohima, Chisho, presented the process and timeline of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. He informed that Kohima district has 189 polling stations across six Assembly Constituencies, including three newly recognised stations. House to house verification by Booth Level Officers will be conducted from August 6 to September 14, with the draft roll to be published on September 28 and the final roll on November 22.
Chisho explained that electors are being mapped with the 2005 electoral roll, with 79.44% achieved so far. He clarified that Aadhaar would only be accepted as proof of identity, not citizenship, address or date of birth, and assured that no eligible voter would be left out.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Sr. SP) Kohima, Krodi Rhetso, highlighted the law and order situation, noting Kohima’s unique challenges as the state capital. He informed that police had arrested several anti social elements and were monitoring illegal activities, including reports of illegal taxation. On the Manipur situation, he said many heavy vehicles remain stranded along National Highway 2, with police deployed to ensure safety of drivers. He appealed to the public and media to refrain from spreading provocative messages on social media.
The meeting concluded with information that the Kohima Municipal Council will present on Solid Waste Management Rules in the next DPDB meeting.
